Arrangements under thWilliam Francis Rowe, Jr., 89, of Alpharetta passed away on March 26, 2014. He was the son of William Francis and Mary Chesley Rowe of Fredericksburg, VA. Mr. Rowe attended Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Richmond. Mr. Rowe was drafted during his freshman into the Army. He served his country as an engineer in the 29th Infantry Division during World War II. He landed on Omaha Beach in the second wave on June 6, 1944. Arrangements under thWilliam Francis Rowe, Jr., 89, of Alpharetta passed away on March 26, 2014. He was the son of William Francis and Mary Chesley Rowe of Fredericksburg, VA. Mr. Rowe attended Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Richmond. Mr. Rowe was drafted during his freshman into the Army. He served his country as an engineer in the 29th Infantry Division during World War II. He landed on Omaha Beach in the second wave on June 6, 1944. He was awarded the 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. After returning to the United States aboard the Queen Mary he re-enrolled at the University of Richmond. Mr. Rowe began a career with The Travelers Insurance Company, living in Baltimore, Richmond, Hartford and Atlanta. He retired as Southeastern Regional VP after 37 years Following retirement, Mr. Rowe volunteered at North Fulton Hospital, No Longer Bound, and Habitat for Humanity. He also served as President of the North Farm Resident Association and the Somerby Resident Association. Mr. Rowe was an avid wood worker, tennis player and traveled extensively. Mr. Rowe is survived by his wife of 63 years Elizabeth Rowe; daughter Sara Costner (Ray), sons William F. III (Claire) and Chesley (Rachel); 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 3 o'clock at Midway United Methodist Church in Alpharetta. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the William F. Rowe, Jr. scholarship fund at the University of Richmond or to the Midway United Methodist Church Building Fund.
